A Ladies’ Luncheon
Tuesday, Mar 18th, 2008 by Janna

I’d been wishing to get together with friends, dress up, bake some special treats, and just indulge in other such girly activities — and an invitation to a ladies’ luncheon from my sister, Audra, provided just such an opportunity! We had a lovely time, all fifteen of us, guests and hostess, packed snugly into Audra’s little yellow house. With borrowed tables and chairs, she found places for us all to sit down to a delightful lunch and dessert (Even more delightful than the lunch! My sweet tooth is a little biased).

An Easter Lily – the centerpiece for one of the tables.

Oh, boy!

Breanna’s delicious Bonnie Butter Cake

The Chocolate and Orange Tartlets. I made these.

Katelyn at the piano, wearing the Regency-style dress she made.

And here’s me, obviously enjoying Audra’s hospitality very much indeed.
~ Thank you, Audra, for a day spent in fellowship with such wonderful family and friends! ~
P.s. My thanks to Erica (once again) for taking the time to capture these memories on film. Excellent job!

Very nice camera work!
I love that picture of Katelyn. Her dress is just perfect on her!
Looks like you had a lot of fun – something to help everyone hang on until spring really gets here!
Oh, I just love that photograph of the teacups! What a lovely day — of course, any day can be counted lovely if you get to dress up. Those tartlets look absolutely scrumptiously divine!
Yours in Christ,
Shannon
I love reading your blog Janna! And your photography is wonderful! I was wondering if you could post the recipes from your delicious looking ladies luncheon…specifically the Chocolate and Orange Cream Tartlets, Bonnie Butter Cake, the Danish Puff, Sour Cream Spice Cake and the Chicken Salad and Salmon Salad on Wheat Bread… that would be sooooooo nice of you! Thank you and have a great day!
Hi, Terra! Thank you so much for your kind comments!
I only have some of the recipes you’ve requested — our family actually only brought the soup and tartlets to the luncheon. But I happen to know that the Danish Puff recipe is a healthy-ized version of the Betty Crocker standard. And I’ve got the recipe for the Sour Cream Spice Cake, written out on a 3″ x 5″ card.
I’ve posted the recipe for the tartlets (Whew! Don’t let the length of the thing daunt you!), and will try to get the two others up, also, without too much delay. We’ll see. This is me you’re dealing with. Procrastinator extraordinaire.
Hi Janna! I stumbled across your site the other day and have really enjoyed looking around. I was wondering where Katelyn got the pattern for her dress (Sensibility.com?) and how she did her hair. LOL My mom and I LOVE both!

Hi, Samantha!
After that, she just twisted it up into a loose up-do and secured it with hair-pins or tiny jaw-clips — I’m not sure which. It does look lovely, doesn’t it? And with that naturally wavy hair, there are no nasty curlers to sleep on…
Katelyn’s dress pattern is the Simplicity version of Mrs. Chancey’s (Sensibility.com) Regency gown pattern. She bought it when patterns were on sale for $1.00 apiece at JoAnn’s.
The headband she’s wearing is actually just a piece of blanket binding — kind-of like extra wide bias tape? Her hair is naturally wavy; she just gelled it and scrunched it and hair-sprayed it while it was still wet from the shower. *Turns green with envy for curly-haired people*
AHHHHHHHH!!!!! I see! Thank you so much! Mrs. Chancey has some BEAUTIFUL stuff doesn’t she? Our nearest Joann’s is like 45 minutes away, so we don’t usually go there. I’ll have to see if Walmart has that pattern.
I’ll have to try that with my hair. No nasty curlers for me either!!!!
Thanks again Janna!!!
