We used a prepared blackening spice mix, which we bought at Lueken’s. I can’t remember what the brand name is… But there’s a picture of a man in a chef’s hat on the front of the box!

Hi, Karen! You know, I’m not sure how many fish we caught, in all. At least enough for one meal! Lately, we’ve been trying out a new way to prepare fish — it’s called “blackening”; you coat the fish in a spice mix and cook them quickly over very high heat. It’s a delicious change from our traditional breaded-and-deep-fried method.

Janna, your family does so many unusual things together and I enjoy
hearing about them. The fishing trip looks great and am impressed
with grandma and her fishing skills. When I first found your blog I went
back and read (haven’t finished all) and the Maple Syrup blogs are just
priceless. They are all so family oriented and it is so refreshing to see.
Enjoy having such a “bunch” around you and don’t take it for granted.
It is one of God’s gifts and I am sure that you realize that.
