Sam and Mara, that “ghostly hand” effect is created by setting the camera’s shutter to a slow speed, and by using a tripod to keep the camera steady during the long exposure time. I put my hand down in the picture, pressed the shutter release button, and then moved my hand sideways, which gave it that transparency. My hand didn’t stay in one place long enough for the camera to pick up all the light it needed — at least I think that’s what happened. Science isn’t my best subject.
