Evening Window Light

Ever since I read the book Natural Light Portrait Photography by Douglas Box, I’ve been discovering the wonders of window lighting — that is, utilizing the natural light from a window to illuminate a subject. This shot of Amanda was taken yesterday evening near the east-facing family room windows. Even though the photo has been shrunk way down to ‘blog-size’, you can still clearly see the tell-tale graininess of the image, caused by my having the ISO turned up as high as it would go, trying to let in enough of that fading twilight.

That is a Beautiful photo!!! I’m trying to learn a bit of photography, and I’m in love with natural light!
By the way, I just saw the Johnson’s at our family camp a few weeks ago! They are so great!
Yes, aren’t the Johnsons amazing? I saw them perform for the first time this last weekend at the Itasca Family Music Festival (http://www.familybluegrass.com/) my cousins host up here in northern Minnesota. We bought their newest album, an all-hymn collection called “Reflections”. Beautiful! I very highly recommend it.
Beautiful picture! It almost looks like a painting.
